Premier Producer - Gorilla Chilla

Jahid Samed aka Gorilla Chilla is a multi talented British Asian musician hailing from Manchester. For many years he has been regarded within Manchester as the finest Asian musician. He has recently achieved success on a national level by being nominated with the group Bonafide for best newcomer 2009.

He started off playing keyboards at the tender age of 5 years old and since then has gained his musical talents and knowledge in many different fields. His talents were first recognised by the likes of Metz n Trix and RDB where he played keyboards on the smash hit album “Danger” back in 2001 at the tender age of 19. The album was an international success which propelled the careers of Metz n Trix and RDB into household names. In addition to playing keyboards and producing music, Gorilla Chilla concentrated on becoming a well respected MC and rapper. “Garage was massive in the club scene between 2000-2003” says Gorilla , “I regularly shared the mic with some of the biggest MCs in the country at the time. I was resident MC for some of the biggest club nights.” Gorilla Chilla vocals also featured on several hit albums. As the Garage scene faded, Gorilla Chilla turned his talents to DJing. The transition was remarkably smooth for Gorilla Chilla. “ I have been producing and making beats in the studio for the last 10 years so I find DJing and mixing comes naturally to me.” In addition to presenting radio shows – both pirate and then mainstream Gorilla has DJ’d in every major city in the UK and almost every club inside his hometown, Manchester. His music styles include RnB, Bhangra, bashment, pop, Bollywood, Arabic, Funky House and Hip Hop. He has also mixed music from almost every genre throughout his career. “I am passionate about all music but Bhangra has always been my favourite” says Gorilla. It comes as no surprise therefore to learn that he has been the resident DJ at the longest running asian nightclub in the United Kingdom. “I have been DJing at The Hollow nightclub in Manchester every week for the last 7 years.” Anyone who knows anything about the club scene will realise just what an achievement this is. After all, most club nights barely last a month. Clubs themselves tend to shut down or change ownership every 2-3 years! So, what next for Gorilla Chilla? “I really enjoyed working on Bonafide album. I have produced several albums before for Supreme Dream Records but I believe this has been the finest to date both in terms of album sales and music. I hope to continue to work with Supreme Dream on future projects. I am also a freelance producer and work on other projects from time to time. I continue to work hard. I now have a reputation to uphold as a good producer and DJ. To remain on top of the game requires practice, patience and hard work.
